Central African Sub-Regional Workshop on Wildlife Trafficking and Dismantling Transnational Illicit Networks – Participants Adopt a Declaration
LIBREVILLE – The participants support the purpose and the objectives shared by COMIFAC action plan concerning the reinforcement of the implementation of national laws on wildlife and formulate 9 strong Recommendations for Central African countries in order to address the issue of wildlife trafficking and dismantle transnational illicit networks.

Libreville (Gabon), 3-5 April 2012- Holding of a Central African Sub-Regional Workshop on Wildlife Trafficking and Dismantling Transnational Illicit Networks – Participants Adopt a Declaration – Participants Adopt a Declaration. The workshop was co-organized by the Gabonese and US governments. About 150 participants attended the meeting, namely: government officials, the police, lawyers, conservation NGO and international organizations’ members from Central Africa, North America and Asian countries, including China.
During three days, participants exchanged intensively on good practices to fight against wildlife trafficking and the breaking up of transnational illicit networks. At the end of deliberations, a strong declaration was adopted and representatives of Central Africa countries established a coalition of regional networks to fight against wildlife trafficking and dismantling transnational illicit networks.
This workshop was an answer to the growing concerns of the international community within the framework of the implementation of the law concerning threats from criminal and illicit networks involved in poaching and the trafficking of protected endangered species, especially elephants.
